Burgess Hill Bonfire Night is on Saturday 26 September. Roads in the town centre close from about 6.30pm to 10.30pm. The evening ends with fireworks and a bonfire at Fairfield Recreation Ground at about 9.45pm.

The timings come from the Burgess Hill Bonfire Society’s poster, which Burgess Hill Town Council published on its event page. Both say all times are approximate.

The poster names only the start and end of each procession. The society says the full routes are printed in its free programme, which the town council says will be available to collect locally. We have not seen a published copy, so we are not listing the streets in between.

Road closures and buses

Road closures run from about 6.30pm to 10.30pm, according to the society’s poster and the council’s page. The tar barrel racing on Church Road starts at the same moment, so expect the town centre to be shut to traffic from the start.

Metrobus has posted a diversion notice for the evening on its Church Road stop page. It says:

  • routes 270, 271 and 272 will be on diversion in both directions from 6.30pm to 10.30pm
  • passengers should use the World’s End or Station Road stops during that time

Metrobus lists the 270 as its East Grinstead to Brighton route, and the 271 and 272 as Crawley to Brighton routes.

What it means for you

  • Going: the first procession sets off at about 7.30pm and the fireworks start at about 9.45pm. Fairfield Recreation Ground is where the evening ends.
  • Driving in: plan to park before 6.30pm. District pay and display charges stop at 6pm on a Saturday, so the town centre car parks are free for the evening. Our parking in Mid Sussex page lists them.
  • Catching a bus: from 6.30pm the 270, 271 and 272 do not serve the Church Road stops. Use World’s End or Station Road instead.
  • Living on the route: expect closures until about 10.30pm, and later if the evening overruns. The times are the society’s estimates.
